An outstanding run of Beltex-x lambs from Martin & Valerie Brown of Leyburn won the major prizes with each of the four classes for Continental sired lambs. Their heavy trimmed pen weighing 48kg/head by a Northern Beltex sire purchased at Carlisle for 2100gns in 2012 were awarded the Lowland Championship and the ES Hartley Trophy for the Supreme Champion pen, they sold for £500 each to Tom Wood, of Huntleys Country Store in Samlesbury, Preston, the three lambs all graded E3L with an average killing out of 60%.
Reserve champions also came from Martin & Valerie Brown, these being the lightweight trimmed class, again by a Northern Beltex sire, weighing an average 38kg live and an incredible 26.2kg dead, this equated to an impressive 69% killing out, and were sold for £250 each to Messrs Swales of Knavesmire butchers in York.
The twelve live lambs that the Brown team showed at the event sold to average £256.25 (£6.10 per kg)
The Carcass Champion was again from the Brown's weighing 23.3kg and selling for £850 to G Cropper. Reserve Champion carcass was from Hannah Brown weighing 19.5kg and sold for £350 also to G Cropper. The five carcass lambs that were entered by the Brown team had an impressive killing out of 60% and sold to average £338 per head (£14.60 per kg)
