Worcester In-Lamb – 5 December

A STEADY trade was met throughout the sale of in-lamb Beltex females at McCartneys Rural’s Worcester centre on Saturday, 5 December, where a ewe from Scott Howell topped the entry at 620gns.

The one-crop Scotts Dawn ET, by Clary Chancer and out of a daughter of The Godfather named Woodies Wild Wind in the flock near Dunhampton, Stourport-on-Severn, Dawn sold to AJ Mutch and Son for their Heath Holm Flock near Witney, Oxon. She changed hands scanned with a pair to a home-bred ram lamb by Topflite Al Pacino.

Evan Jones, Smithy Fen, Cottenham, saw his dearest two shearling ewes sell for 600gns apiece when brought out by sister, Amy. First at this price when sold to Kate Jones, Mamhilad, was Merton Hall Ester Reed which scanned with a single to Broughton Dalbeattie. Bred from the Black Jack Robin Hood-sired Merton Hall Willow, she is by Broughton Dalbeattie.

Also selling to Kate Jones for 600gns was Merton Hall Erigeron, which is this time by Glenpark Dagger and out of Fort View Wilma, herself by Bharangyne Tornado. She sold carrying a pair to Dooley Demetrius.

Kate also paid paid 550gns for Evan’s Merton Hall Echinacea ET which scanned a single to Dooley Demetrius. Her pedigree features Munch Corker on to the Fronarth Ace of Spades daughter, Powerhouse Chuckle.

From across the Welsh Border, Mathew Jones, Ynys, Talsarnau, Gwynedd, received a top price of 550gns for his 2016-born ewe, Glan-Y-Mor Beauty, a Woodies Ringleader daughter bred from Inveresk Rue Evler, a daughter of an imported ram. Carrying a single to the 9000gns Rathbone Tony, she heads to Whitchurch, Shropshire, with A Butler.

Averages: Six aged ewes, £480; 13 shearling ewes, £416; two ewe lambs, £284.
