BELTEX tups met a strong commercial demand at United Auctions’ Stirling centre on Saturday, 18 September, where two shearling rams set a new top price of 2500gns apiece.

 

Ochtermuthill Freaky, Jimmy Taylor, 2500gns

 

With these two adding to an improved shearling ram average of £954 for 60 (up from £869 for 43 in 2020), the first to sell for that price was Ochtermuthill Freaky, the second in from Jimmy Taylor, Muthill, Crieff. Sired by Tiree Diageo and out of the Corstane Skirling daughter, Ochtermuthill Barbara, Freaky sold to Robert McNee, Over Finlarg, Tealing.

 

Ochtermuthill Fruitcake, Jimmy Taylor, 2000gns

 

Also in the money for the Ochtermuthill pen when sold to Monzie Farms, Gilmerton, for 2000gns was Ochtermuthill Fruitcake, this time by Clary Dazzler and out of the Clary Warbler-sired Ochtermuthill Bailey.

 

Wannop’s FCUK ET, Andrew Morton, 2500gns

 

Matching the 2500gns top price tag was Andrew Morton’s Wannop’s FCUK ET, originally bred by the team at Wannop’s Farms. This Bonecastle Dante son is out of the Ardstewart Armani-sired Dean Brow Carro, and sold to D Fisher Contracting, Groan, Perth.

 

Mortons Freckle, Andrew Morton, 2200gns

 

Andrew, from Lochend, Denny, had a great day’s trading and also received 2200gns and 1800gns for two sons of the 10,000gns Gyffin Dexter, and another 1800gns for a son of Matt’s Dare Devil, which all sold to Allan Wright of Doune Farming, West Lundie, Gleneagles. At 2200gns was Mortons Freckle which is out of Tiptop Candy Floss, a daughter of Willy Nine Hundred.

The first at 1800gns was Mortons Freddie, by the Matt’s tup and out of Mortons Delilah, by Hackney Braveheart. Again making 1800gns was Mortons Francis, by Gyffin Dexter and this time out of the Hackney Braveheart-sired Mortons Della.

Another Matt’s Dare Devil son, Mortons Fatboy, out of the Glenkeen Patricks Boy-sired Mortons Tilly, sold to RG Shand, Woodside Croft, Aberchirder, for 1600gns.

 

Osprey Flambo, Ian Reid, Champion, 1600gns

 

The Champion from the pre-sale show, Ian Reid’s Osprey Flambo from the flock near Methven, Perth, realised 1500gns when sold to the judge, John Guthrie, Cuiltburn, Muthill. His pedigree features Kingledores Commander on to Freckleton Wassail, a Matt’s Times Square daughter.

Averages: One aged ram, £688; 60 shearling rams, £954 (43 x £869 in 2020); one aged ewe, £263; one gimmer, £368.
