It was a dream debut at the Royal Welsh Show for the Usk Vale team when their very first owned Beltex landed the Female and then Supreme Championship at the Royal Welsh Show on Tuesday, 19 July.

With judging delayed to later in the evening, temperatures were not much cooler for judge, Libby McAllister, of the Artnagullion Flock, who found her Supreme in the shape of a shearling ewe from Willy Davies and Paul Rowlands, of Usk Vale Pedigrees.

That was Matt’s Gypsy Girl ET which was bought privately from her breeder, Matthew Burleigh, earlier this year and was making her show debut. Sired by the 14,000gns Murrays Expert, her dam is Matt’s Equipped, herself by Matt’s Defender.

“She stood out as an easy winner,” said Ms McAllister. “She’s got style, great length, and good end and good skin, but also has great character in her head.”

Females were the flavour of the day as the Reserve Female, a ewe lamb named Logie Durno Hyacinth ET from the Ingram family, William, Carole, Gregor and Bruce, followed the Champion all the way through to stand Reserve Supreme. Also on her show debut, this daughter of the 11,000gns Buckles Fury is out of the Belvoir View Diamond Flame-sired Belvoir View Fertility.

“The Reserve was again a well conformed sheep with a super end, bright head and bit of colour,” added Ms McAllister.

Among the males it was an as yet unnamed ram lamb from Michael and Heulwen Owens that stood to the fore. His dam is the home-bred Ardstewart Comanche daughter, Glantre Flower, while his sire is Faughhill Fraggle Rock.

Angus Hamplett had a good day when his shearling ram, the Dooley Dothraki-sired Booden Godfather, was Reserve Male. He is out of Booden Eve, a Dooley Colonel daughter.

Leading the aged ram class was Cynin Extreme ET, a home-bred three-year from Adrian Roberts which is by Belvoir View Candyman and out of an imported V/D Harlembois ewe.

Ioan Jones’ Tywi Eve ET won the aged ewe class. Full of Woodies breeding, this Woodies Bojangles daughter is out of the Woodies Whos The Boss-sired Woodies Barbie.
