It was a triumphant return to the top for Andrew Baillie when his Beltex-sired lambs were tapped out as Supreme Champion at the Scottish National Fat Stock Club’s LiveScot event on Saturday, 26 November.

The winning lambs from Andrew Baillie, together with daughter Rachel and son Cameron, secured the family from Carstairs Mains their second Supreme honours at LiveScot having picked up the same trophy back in 2019. Weighing in at 44kg apiece, the Clary Dumfries-sired ewe lambs first headed up the heavyweight Beltex class before claiming the Butchers Championship then Supreme.

“The Champion pair were a perfect shape, a perfect pair and in perfect condition – I could buy that sort all day long,” commented the judge, Bill MacKinnon, Procurement Manager at Scotbeef, Bridge of Allan, who later paid £380 for them. I look for lean lambs, not over fat, and knew when I felt them in their class that they would take some beating.”

Andrew also won the lightweight Beltex class with a similarly bred pair that went on to realise £200.

After a successful debut last year, the Pedigree Lamb Show was back and the Beltex classes welcomed the largest entries. It was a great day for father and son duo, Robert and Jim Hamilton, when they won both classes. Leading the ewe lambs was Shawtonhill Helen, a Clary FLy-Boy daughter bred out of Shawtonhill Fizz.

Jim’s own Mid Shawtonhill Hazard led the ram lambs. He is by the 4000gns Mid Shawtonhill Gypsy King sold earlier in the year.

Scott Frame headed up the Saddle of Lamb competition with a 27.9kg entry by a ram bred by Jimmy Glasgow.
