Females peaked at 850gns on two occasions at the Welsh Beltex Club sale at Welshpool Livestock Sales’ principal centre on Thursday, 14 December.

First to sell at that price was the Reserve Champion from Sion Jones, Pennant, Llanon, Ceredigion, in the shape of Fronarth Hot To Trot ET. Forming park of Sion’s reduction, this Osprey Geronimo daughter is out of Fronarth Foxglove, herself by Swffryd Double Trouble. She caught the eye of JP Phillips and heads to Erwood, Built Wells, scanned with a pair to Wannop’s Hermes.

Sion welcomed many of the top prices, including 820gns for Fronarth geranium ET, which again scanned a pair to Wannop’s Hermes but this time was by Clary Dumfries and out of the Pantgwyn Wil-sired Fronarth Beauty. She was knocked down to GM Phillips, Llanafan, Builth Wells.

GM Phillips paid a further 800gns for Fronarth Gabby ET, the Supreme Champion which is a full sister to Geranium and also carrying a pair to the Wannop’s ram.

Fronarth Honey ET, by Osprey Geronimo and out of the Hackney Corker-sired Matt’s Dolce & Gabanna, sold to A Tortoriello, Llanbister, Llandrindod Wells, for 650gns. She scanned a single to Clary Dumfries.

Matching the 850gns top price was Glantre Hullabaloo from husband and wife team, Michael and Heulwen Owens, who are also reducing numbers as they move to milking cows. Sired by Faughhill Fraggle Rock and out of the Ardstewart Aragon-sired Glantre Damson, she sold to T Jones, Feelingwm, Uchaf, Nantgaredig, carrying a pair to Lurg Guilt.

The Owens, from Pontsian, Llandysul, saw their Glantre Hope sell to D Morgan, Talybont, Ceredigion, for 620gns. Carrying a pair to Lurg Guilt, this Glantre Dyson daughter is out of Glantre Esyllt, an Ardstewart Commanche daughter.

Two sold for 600gns apiece with D Morgan also snapping both of these up. First was Glantre Geulwen ET, similarly bred to Hope and also scanned twins to Lurg Guilt.

Glantre Honey Bunny offered some different breeding, being by Artnagullion Dupe and out of a home-bred Rathbone Brandon daughter. She was another scanned twins to the Lurg ram.

Averages: 11 aged ewes, £530; 13 shearling ewes, £597; three ewe lambs, £315.
