Leading the multi breed offering of Blue Texel, Beltex, Badger Face Texel and Rouge sheep on Friday (5thSeptember) at Worcester Livestock Market was a Beltex ram from Aled Groucott, Crumlin, Gwent, selling for 2000gns.
Swffyrd Kracker is by Aramis de Noblehaye and out of an Ardstewart female by the homebred Swffryd Express. Taking this one home were Emily South and Harry Bishop for the Chiltern flock, based at Fencott, Oxfordshire.
Second highest in the Beltex breed offering at 1500gns was another shearling ram, this time Huntspill Kingsman from Stuart and Jenny Clatworthy, Highbridge, Somerset. By Cothi Halaholo ET and out of a homebred female by Black Jack Disaranno, this one was knocked down to B and S Powell, Kidderminster, Worcestershire.
Shearling rams were in strong demand with another selling for 1250gns for Aled Groucott. Swffryd Kong previously stood male and reserve overall champion under pre-sale show judge David Wadland, Daventry, Northants. By Heatheryhall Jumanji and out of a homebred dam, this one heads to the judge.
Also, at 1500gns was the top priced ram lamb, this time Statesman Leader from Cheltenham, Glos-based Ben Stayt. By Statesman Knockout, this one is out of Windrush Farm Harmony, a daughter of the 1100gns Dooley Casper. This one proved to be the pick of R Richins, Marston, Oxford.
Then at 1200gns was Aled Groucott’s highest priced ram lamb, Swffryd Lion King. Again, by the Jumanji sire and out of a homebred Langlands Hitman ET daughter, this ram lamb found a new home with previous buyer R Richins.
Averages:
18 shearling rams £828.33; 9 ram lambs £781.66; 2 shearling ewes £388.50; 5 ewe lambs £258.30 (McCartneys).
