It was a clean sweep for the Hall family from Inglewood Edge at the Scottish National Fatstock Club’s Premier Meat Exhibition event when they landed both the live and carcase Championships at the event held at Lanark Auction Market on 10 November and Scot Beef, Bridge of Allan, on 12 November.

A feat only claimed once before, John Hall and daughter Joanne saw their Champion from the live judging of the Premier Meat Event, as picked out by Graeme Sinclair, Crookston, go on to win the carcase judging a few days later, as well as the Jean-Marie Macquet trophy for the best export lamb and Ryder Family trophy for best Beltex lamb.

Their winner – which weighed 39kg liveweight, killed out at 21.4kg and graded E3L – is by a Hackney ram and out of a three-quarter-bred Beltex ewe.

“The Champion Carcase was an outstanding lamb, full of conformation with plenty of length over its loin, having just the right amount of fat covering and a good depth of shoulder to it,” said the carcase judge, Jimmy Stark.

The Reserve ticket went to a lamb from Robert Templeton, Carslae, a regular winner of prizes at the event.
