Females met a select demand at the Beltex Sheep Society’s Beltex Belles sale at Harrison and Hetherington’s Borderway Mart on Saturday, 21 May, when entries from Stuart Wood’s Woodies Flock from Aberdeenshire led the trade.
Woodies Glam ET, S Wood, 1100gns
Selling for the top price of 1100gns was Stuart’s Woodies Glam ET, a substitute entry by Ryder Eddie bred from the noted 1443 Belgian import that won her class at the Royal Highland in 2019. Glam caught the ewe of Messrs Mitchell and heads south to Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire.
Next best at 850gns when knocked down to William Smith for his Greenridge Flock near Hexham was Woodies Go Get It Girl, this time by the 5500gns Skiddaw View Endurance and out of another imported ewe.
Close behind on 800gns was another by the Skiddaw View Endurance ram in the shape of Woodies Galway Girl ET which is out of Woodies Cauldron, a Loandhu Bonzo daughter. She joins John Shedden and Sons’ Newfield Mains Flock near Kilmarnock.
Joining Galway Girl in the Newfield Mains Flock was Woodies Glitter Girl ET. Sired by Bailey Brook CR7, she is out of Woodies Crunchie Nut from the flock near Skene, Westhill, and realised 700gns.
Matching that 700gns was Nikay Going Going Gone from Nick Gill and Kayley Kennedy, from near Keswick. Selling to Harry Askwith for his Askwith Flock, Crook, County Durham, she is by Swffryd Diplo and out of Withy Trees Easy Come Easy Go.
Averages: One pedigree ewe with lamb, £630 (1 x £1470 in 2021); 10 empty ewe hoggs, £709 (10 x £803).
