It was the Reserve Champion that led the Beltex Sheep Society’s offering at Frome Livestock Auctioneers’ Frome mart on Wednesday, 28 September, when Louise Elworthy’s shearling ram was knocked down for the top price of 630gns.

That was Fingle Gamma, an Ainstable Epilogue son bred from the Finniness Comic-sired Fingle Edna. He caught the eye of the Kimber family and join their Beanhill Flock near Christian Malford, Chippenham.

Next best at 450gns was Archie Hill’s Supreme Champion, a shearling ewe named Quaish Gi Gi which was one of three gimmers to sell to the team at Haswell Moor Farm, Durham. Her pedigree features Bishops Edward on to an imported Van’t Rozenaken ewe.

Louise received a further 400gns from Haswell Moor Farm for Fingle Gateway, another by Ainstable Epilogue but this time out of Fingle Eye-eye, again by Finniness Comic.

Averages: One aged ram, £399; three shearling rams, £466; four shearling ewes, £420; one ewe lamb, £263.
