A shearling ewe from Rebecca Braithwaite’s Sovereign flock near Lower Bentham, Lancaster, proved to be the star attraction at the Northern Beltex Club’s show and sale of males and females at North West Auctions’ J36 Crooklands centre on Monday, September 16.
Claiming the Female Supreme Championship before going on to sell for the top price of 1,600gns, Sovereign Diana is by Dean Brown Carlos and out of the Lyonpark Thrust-sired Beautry Beyonce. She was knocked down for that top price to the judge, Alasdair Prickett, of the Farleton House flock near Carnforth.
Two shearling rams then sold for 650gns apiece, including the Male Champion which sold to W Storey for the Limestock Flock near Hayclose, Calthwaite. That was Edward Benn’s Benndale Dizzy Rascal, by Benndale Commander and out of Drumbchapen Bethaney, a Broxty Wishful Thinking daughter from the flock at Cotherstone, Barnard Castle.
Matching that 650gns was Hallcrake Dick Dastardly from Mark and Ellie Jennings, Selside, Kendal. By Dooley Bomer and out of the Smart Ass Sensational-sired Hallcrake Boudicca, he was champion at Cartmel Show earlier this year. Dick Dastardly heads to work near Marske, Richmond, for DEM and I Brown.
Next best at 500gns when sold to J Smith, Daisy Bank, Lancaster, was Vallum Dream Girl, a shearling ewe from the Hewson family, Burgh by Sands, Carlisle. Her pedigree features Ochtermuthill Cardinal on to Vallum Addition.
