BELTEX BELTERS PEAK AT 1400 GUINEAS

The Beltex Belters sale at Lanark held on Saturday 14th December 2024 was judged by James Wannop, of the Wannop’s flock, Morecambe, Lancashire. The event was kindly sponsored by Glasson Fertilisers and supporting sponsors included Davidson Animal Feeds, L S Smellie & Sons, James P. Campbell Animal Feeds, and Tarff Valley.

The overall top price of 1,400gns was realised for Carstairs Jersey, a gimmer from Andrew Baillie, Callacrag flock. Sired by Callacrag Hot Shot, she is out of Callacrag Jagerbomb and said to be carrying twins by the 16,000gns Faughhill Kaiser. This gimmer was a full sister to the 5,000gns Carstairs Jagerbomb and the 8,000gns Carstairs Jollygiant and sold over the phone to William & John Brown, Hilton of Culsh, New Deer.

Also heading to Messrs Brown is Callacrag Jolly, another gimmer from Andrew Baillie who realised the next top price at 1,100gns. Sired by Wannop’s Firecracker and out of Callacrag Caprice, she sold carrying triplets again to Faughhill Kaiser.

Making it a top three price hattrick was Callacrag Josephine at 1,000gns. Another sired by Wannop’s Firecracker, she was out of Callacrag Fresa and said to be carrying a single by Faughhill Kaiser to Neil McDonald, Bowmore, Islay.

The Champion, Kingledores Jyla from Messrs R E Wood & Son sold for 900gns to Murray Wood for his Murray’s flock at Broadwater. This gimmer was sired by Curwen Hill George, she is out of Kingledores Echo Falls and due a single.

Topping the ewe lamb section was Faughhill Kapow, from Grant & Katie Maxwell, Faughhill at 800gns. By the 18,000gns Ainstable Javelin and out of Heatheryhall Glitter, who herself was the Lanark in-lamb champion in 2022. She sold to Messrs Sheddan, Newfield Mains, Dundonald.

Finally leading the aged ewe trade at 380gns was Beachy Graceland from the Barclay family at Mid Brockloch. By Glenpark Dynamite, she is out of Beachy Etta and scanned to a single by Faughhill Joc, she sold to Messrs Craig, Rankinston, Ayr.
