Females from Alfie and Ann Taylor’s Heatheryhall Flock once again proved to be the star attraction at the Beltex Scotland sale at Lawrie and Symington’s Lanark Centre on Saturday, 9 December, when shearling ewes from the Heatheryhall Production sale topped at 5000gns.

Leading the way was the very first lot on offer from the Thankerton, Biggar-based flock in the shape of Heatheryhall Helena ET, a daughter of the 30,000gns Buckles Dark Dawn bred from the 5000gns Lurg Ella, a Bailey Brook CR7 daughter. This stock gimmer that was second at Lesmahagow and best bred by exhibitor at Carnwath sold to Alan Miller of the Lurg Flock near Midmar, Inverurie, carrying twins to the 20,000gns Curwen Hill Golden Boy.

Next best at 4600gns when sold over the phone to Stuart Wood for his Woodies flock, Skene, Westhill, was Heatheryhall Heidi which also scanned twins but this time to the 42,000gns Todhall Hercules. Buying back some of his own breeding, this Woodies Storm daughter is out of the Dark Dawn-bred Heatheryhall Felicity.

Hitting 4000gns was Heatheryhall Hazel ET which offers some different breeding being by Wannop’s Godfather and out of another Dark Dawn daughter in the shape of Heatheryhall Fiona which also bred the 4000gns Heatheryhall Jumanji sold in August. Scanned with twins to Curwen Hill Golden Boy, she was knocked down to Andrew Wainwright for his Todhall Flock near Cupar.

Andrew paid a further 2400gns for another from the Dark Dawn x Lurg Ella flush in the shape of Heatheryahll Honey Bee ET, which this time scanned triplets to Todhall Hercules.

New breeder, Neil Wattie, from Alford, forked out 3400gns and 3000gns for two carrying twins to Todhall Hercules. First and making 3400gns was the Dark Dawn-sired Heatheryhall Halle ET which is out of the Quarrymount William Wallace daughter, Heatheryhall Diamond.

At 3000gns was Heatheryhall Honeysuckle whose dam is the Airyolland Castro-bred Wilodge Foxglove while her sire is Ardstewart Fred Flintstone.

Kenny O’Connor paid 2200gns to take Heatheryhall High ET, another by Dark Dawn, home to his Kenny’s Flock near Carstairs Junction, Lanark. Bred from the William Wallace daughter, Heatheryhall Buttercup, she also scanned twins to the Todhall ram.

A trio of 2000gns sales included Heatheryhall High & Mighty ET selling to Andy Ireland, Feoch Flock, Darvel; Heatheryhall Heather to Stuart Robson, Galashiels; and the dearest of the ewe lambs, Heatheryhall Jelly Bean ET, which sold to Cameron Cormack for his Dunrod Flock near Jedburgh.

This February-born embryo is a full sister to the aforementioned Jumanji, being out of Heatheryhall Fiona and sired by Woodies Hulk.

The main sale saw two from Gordon Harrison, Carnwath, Lanark, lead the way at 2500gns and 2100gns, both of which were of the same breeding as the leading Heatheryhall gimmers. At 2500gns was Gordy’s Hola Hoop ET, from the same Dark Dawn x Lurg Ella flush as the 5000gns Heatheryhall Helena ET. Hola Hoop stood Reserve Champion at the pre-sale show and was knocked down for that 2500gns to the judge, Grant Maxwell, for his Faughhill Flock, Melrose, carrying a pair to Kingledores Braveheart.

A full sister named Gordy’s Haagen-daz ET sold also scanned with twins to Kingledores Braeheart, this time to Euan Lawrie for the Grangehall Flock, Pettinain, Lanark, for 2100gns.

The day’s Champion, Callacrag Heidi ET from Andrew Baillie, Carstairs, also sold to Grant Maxwell, this time for 1000gns. Carrying a single to the 3500gns Tullylagan Jaguar, her pedigree features the home-bred Callacrag Godzilla on to Callacrag Caprice, a Hackney Braveheart daughter.

Andrew welcomed a further 900gns for the Clary Dumfries-sired Callacrag Hope and Glory ET, and 800gns for the Callacrag Godzilla daughter, Callacrag Highlight, both of which were AI’d to Tullylagan Jaguar. The former sold to William McMillan for his Carse Flock near Newton Stewart scanned with twins, and the latter sold carrying a single to JG Maxwell and Sons, Dumfries.
