Reserve champion tops Leek Beltex sale
A 3,100gns bid topped the 36 catalogued entries in the Beltex Society’s sale at Leek when the shearling ewe, Boothlaw Jaffacake from T. and J. Bellfield, Buxton sold to Messrs Darlington, Hulme End, Buxton.
This January single by Buckles Dark Dawn was the first female to be sold out of the 4,000gns Hackney Delicious, and had been awarded the reserve championship by Buxton judge, Saskia Fletcher. Apart from their top-priced lot, Messrs Bellfield then sold five other shearling ewes at 400gns.
The day’s champion was Todhall Jack, the first prize shearling ram, a late February single by Wannop’s Gaucho from I.A. Wainwright, Cupar, Fife, who sold several of the higher priced lots. The champion is out of a home-bred dam, and made 1,000gns to S. Allen, Butterton, Leek.
Also from Todhall and at the same price, was Todhall Joe, a mid February twin shearling ram by by the 18,000gns Airyolland Goldmine out of Todhall Eva. The buyer was R. Challinor, Dilhorne, Stoke on Trent. At 900gns and selling to S.F. Harper, Onecote, Leek, was Todhall Jedi, a late March twin also by Goldmine out of Todhall Elegance. C. Banks then paid 800gns for another Todhall shearling ram, Todhall ET, again by Airyolland Goldmine and out of Todhall Freya. A 750gns bid from J. and B. Fentem and Sons, Allsop-En-Le-Dale, Ashbourne, secured Todhall Jeremy, by Goldmine, and the same buyers went to 600gns for the Bellfields’ second prize shearling ram, Boothlow Joyride by Gyffin Dexter.
