A ewe with twin lambs at foot from Tom Mawer and Graham Barker headed up the Beltex Sheep Society’s offering at Melton Mowbray Market’s Spring Fling sale on Saturday, 7 May, when they attracted a total bid of 750gns.
Making that price for the partnership from Kelby, Grantham, was Woodies Elizabeth ET, a three-year-old originally bred by Stuart Wood. With a pedigree featuring Bailey Brook CR7 on to an imported Belgian ewe, she changed hands with her twin ewe lambs at foot sired by Airyolland Choco. They caught the eye of Joshua Jack and join his Dovecote Flock near Shenley Brook End, Milton Keynes.
Following on at 500gns was the first in from Chris Wright’s Brothertoft Flock from Boston, Lincolnshire. His Brothertoft Dawn is a 2018-born daughter of Woodwick Brave Heart, bred from Dooley Tasha. Selling to MD Copley, of the Croxtonheath Flock, Croxton Kerrial, Grantham, she had a single ewe lamb at foot by Withy Trees Gallyblagger.
Ewe hoggs reached 310gns for the dearest from Messrs Mawer and Barker in the shape of Applejack Gigi which was knocked down to James Thraves, of the Oaksedge Flock near Gladwins Mark, Ashover. This Belvoir View Diamond Flame daughter is bred from Belvoir View Evita.
Averages: Four ewes with lambs, £454 (4 x £325 in 2021); four ewe hoggs, £244 (6 x £438).
