NSA Exeter Ram Sale

14th August 2019

Kivells, Exeter, Devon

Amy Pedrick

Trade at Exeter on 14 August for the NSA South West region sale was steady throughout, reflecting a little caution in the air with ram buyers. However, setting the pace and selling for the top of the day of 920gns was the Supreme Champion from Andrew Bishop.

This shearling ram, Bishops Desmond, is a son of Ardstewart Abacus and is out of a home-bred dam by Fort View Nijinsky. He was pick of judge Amy Pedrick in the pre-sale show and was chased hard in the sale ring, ultimately being knocked down to B Collings, Launceston, Cornwall.

Next best in the shearling ram trade were two tups selling for 500gns, the first being a substitute entry from L and V Gregory with a Burseypark ram selling to K Darling, Salisbury, Wiltshire. Meanwhile, Andrew Bishop sold Bishops Diego, a Woodies Watson son, to RW Tapp, South Molton, Devon.

Trade for ram lambs saw a top of 600gns for the last in the ring, Plantfield Everready from Lousie Atkins. This one is by Plantfield Desmo and out of a Teign Valley Saracen daughter. Buyer here was A Dufosee.

Females saw a top price of 500gns for the pre-sale Female Champion, Bishops Diamond, from Andrew Bishop. This one is by The Bulldog and out of a home-bred daughter of The Bulldog. Taking this one home was GB Renfree, Liskeard, Cornwall.

At 450gns was the Reserve Female Champion, Freckleton Dora, from VJ and ML Roots. By Brickrow Bronze, this one is out of a home-bred Hackney Trader daughter and was also knocked down to GW Renfree.

Joining the two top priced shearling ewes on the journey to Cornwall was the best of the ewe lambs at 380gns, Freckleton Esmerelda, a Topflite Cobra daughter out of a Woodies Alvin daughter.

Average: 39 sold £422.15
