David Thornley, Dooley Flock
Topping Beltex trade at Rugby Farmers Mart on Saturday, 14 September, was a shearling ewe from Andrew and Becky Bishop, Eldersfield, Gloucestershire, selling for 2000gns to an undisclosed buyer.
Bishops Dior is by Woodies Beyond Limits and out of a home-bred dam by the imported sire Ouragan Des Pres de L’Ernard and previously stood Female and Supreme Champion under judge David Thornley of the Dooley Flock, Swadlincote, Derbyshire.
Leading the male section was a shearling ram at 900gns in the form of Staddlestone Dram from Stewart Taylor, Coventry, Warwickshire. This one is a son of Staddlestone Cracker and out of Woodies Wonderful, a Todhall Sumo daughter, and was tapped out as Male and Reserve Supreme Champion. This was one was knocked down to D Mitchell, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.
Second highest price in the shearling rams was a call of 550gns for Chiltern Dierdon from Emily South, Fencott, Oxfordshire. This one is by Woodies Beyond Limits and out of Bishops Bootylicious, a Bishops Arnold daughter. Taking this one home were Messrs Bailey and Moore, Lutterworth, Leicestershire.
Shearling ewes saw a top price of 500gns given for Saddlestone Desire, again from Stewart Taylor. By the home bred sire Saddlestone Cracker, this one is out of Freckleton Wakeful and sold to P Batchelor, Rugby, Warwickshire.
Averages: 1 Aged Ram, £336; 14 Shearling Rams, £435.75; 3 Ram Lambs, £350; 9 Shearling Ewes, £569.33; 2 Ewe Lambs, £304.50.
