Shearlings from Andrew Morton landed the top two tickets at Beltex Scotland Club’s show and sale at United Auctions’ Stirling centre on Saturday, 17 September, but it was his Reserve Champion named Mortons Grey Goose ET that secured the top price of 2300gns.

The sale saw Beltex rams met a particularly strong demand as the average increased by more than

Selling to John Guthrie, who runs the Cuiltburn Flock with daughter, Kirsty, near Muthill, Crieff, Grey Goose is by the 10,000gns Gyffin Dexter shared with the Buckles Flock, while his dam is a home-bred McKnight’s Dangerous Dave daughter.

Andrew, from near Denny, sold 10 shearlings to average £1407 and shared the second top price of 2000gns when Allan Wright paid that to take Mortons Gangster to work at Doune Farms near Argaty. Bred from the Hackney Braveheart daughter, Mortons Cute, Gangster is all by Gyffin Dexter.

Selling for 1800gns was Mortons Grant, which this time is by the Wannop’s Fcuk ET sold for the joint top price of 2500gns here last year while the dam is Woodwick Duchess, a Langlands Bruiser daughter. Forking out the cash was the team at Inverdunning Estate, near Dunning.

Mortons Gizmo, also by Dexter but out of the Hackney Braveheart-sired Mortons Dutchess ET, sold to K Marshall, Banton, Kilsyth, for 1300gns.

Matching the 2000gns second top price was the dearest from Alasdair Maclean’s Tiree Flock from the Hebridean Island, which averaged £1460 for 10. That was Tiree General ET, a son of the 5000gns Tercrosset Epic bred from Alasdair’s noted Tiree Closer, a Callacrag Wise Crack daughter. He caught the eye of the team at Monzie Farms, Gilmerton, Crieff.

Alasdair’s pen leader, Tiree Galileo, again by Tercrosset Epic, sold to John and James Graham, Blair Drummond, Stirling, for 1900gns. He is out of another Callacrag Wise Crack daughter in the shape of Tiree Dry Gin.

Sticking with the Tiree pen and Jane Graham paid 1800gns for another of similar breeding, Tiree Good Year which heads back to the Isle of Tiree to Caolis. Again by the Tercrosset ram and out of a Wise Crack daughter, his dam is Tiree Blossom.

At 1600gns was The Tercrosset Epic-sired Tiree Gun Powder which sold to George Whyte, who runs the Pett Flock near Muthill. His dam is Tiree Alexandra, a Matt’s Talisman daughter.

JD Steele, Pitroddie, paid 1300gns for Tiree Godson, yet another by the Tercrosset Epic sire but this time out of the Vicky’s Dumbledore-bred Tiree Ellie.

Jimmy Taylor’s Ochtermuthill Flock from near Muthill welcomed top calls of 1600gns and 1400gns. Dearest when knocked down to Monzie Farms was Ochtermuthill Gordon, a Glantre Empire son bred from Ochtermuthill Camellia, herself by Aviemore Atwood.

Ochtermuthill Gregor realised 1600gns when sold to Allan Wright, Doune Farms. His pedigree features Glantre Enzo on to Octhermuthill Cis, a Brownville Blackjack daughter.

Averages: 59 shearling rams, £1074 (60 x £954 in 2021).
