5,200gns Cogail yearling ram tops Welsh Premier Sale at Welshpool
Welshpool Livestock Sales Ltd — judge Mr Dafydd Owen, Dysynni flock
A yearling ram from D G & C Parry’s Cogail flock led the Beltex Sheep Society’s Welsh Premier Sale at Welshpool, selling for 5,200gns as the yearling ram section averaged £1,135.53 for 126 head.
Topping the day at 5,200gns was Cogail Lewis (DGP.L004) from D G & C Parry, Bryn Cogail, Beaumaris, Anglesey. The March-2025-born AI-bred twin is by Gyffin Dexter (ECL.D011) and out of Mortons Happiness (MAM.H061), a Matt’s Dare Devil ET daughter. He stood third in the yearling ram class under judge Dafydd Owen before being knocked down to R Pilkington, Shordley Hall, Shordley Road, Hope, Wrexham.
Next best at 2,800gns was Dysynni Lexus (DRO.L064) from Mr D Owen, Red House Farm, Aberhafesp, Newtown, Powys. By Dysynni George (DRO.G008) and out of Dysynni Judy (DRO.J015), the late-March twin sold to E H Pennie & Son, Gwern-yr-Ychain, Llandyssil, Montgomery, Powys.
Three then followed at 2,600gns. First was the reserve male champion, Cothi Loverboy ET (DAF.L007) from Mr D Lewis, Pentwyn, Cwrtycadno, Llanwrda, Carmarthenshire. Standing second in the yearling ram class, the ET-bred twin is by Lakeview Doozer ET (JFF.D042) and out of Aviemore Jennifer ET (AVI.J029). He sold to B Blandford, Mayfields Farm, Coddington.
At the same money, Brynsa Lumberjack (TRJ.L025) from Ryan Joseph, Brynsifiog Farm, Ffynnon Gynydd, Brecon, Powys, went to P M & M L Thomas, Bryn Awel, Llangan, Vale of Glamorgan. The March-born triplet is by Borderesk Jimbob (AES.J022) and out of Brynsa Fitbit (TRJ.F002).
Completing the trio at 2,600gns was Dysynni Lenny (DRO.L044), again from Mr D Owen, Aberhafesp. The mid-March twin is another Dysynni George son, out of Dysynni Jewels (DRO.J030), a Freckleton Goliath daughter, and was secured by H B J Farms, Llwyngwilym, Rhayader, Powys.
Ryan Joseph’s Brynsa Love Machine (TRJ.L018) made 2,250gns to R M & L C Eckley & Sons, Ffordd Fawr, Glasbury-on-Wye. A Logie Durno Jade ET (WCI.J026) son out of Brynsa High Spy (TRJ.H025), he was one of a strong run from the Brynsifiog flock.
At 2,200gns, Pager Last One (PAR.L3660) from Tippetts and Jones, Lodge Hill Farm, Park Lane, Shifnal, Shropshire, sold to R H Buckley & Sons, Cefn Isaf, Llangedwyn, Oswestry. He is by Curwen Hill Jericho ET (DRT.J021) and out of Hackney Gabriella ET (TIP.G3180).
A third Brynsa entry, Brynsa Lorenzo (TRJ.L008), made 2,100gns to D L Jones, Ddol, Llanbadarn Fynydd, Llandrindod Wells. The Borderesk Jimbob son is out of Brynsa Junk In Ma Trunk (TRJ.J028).
Taking the supreme championship was Pager Leo ET (PAR.L3610) from Tippetts and Jones, Shifnal. First prize yearling ram and male champion, the February-2025-born single ET is by Ryder Jordan (RYD.J003) and out of Pager Jinny ET (PAR.J3576), a Buckles Fury ET daughter. His grandam, Corra Go Lightly (GFC.G3879), bred Pager Jackpot, which sold at 13,000gns to the Lurg flock. He sold for 2,000gns to J T Rowlands, Mynydd Adda, Llanddeusant, Anglesey.
Mr Rowlands also took the same flock’s Pager Laddie (PAR.L3664) at 2,000gns, a Curwen Hill Jericho ET son out of the same dam, Pager Jinny ET.
A quartet of yearling rams then sold at 1,800gns: Rhyd Luca (LAW.L003) from L A Williams, Caegarn, Cilcennin, Lampeter, by Rhyd King (LAW.K003), to S H Hillage & Sons, Lower Whittingslow Farm, Marshbrook, Church Stretton; Smart Ass Lionel Messi ET (DEO.L036) from Mr D E Owen, Golygfa’r Dyffryn, Rowen, Conwy, to W P & C Parry, Aberkin, Llanystumdwy, Criccieth; his flockmate Smart Ass Leonardo DiCaprio ET (DEO.L037), both Blackadder Jailhouse Rock ET sons out of Smart Ass Gemini ET, to G W Jones, Graig Fach, Llanfair Caereinion; and Gyffin Luciano ET (ECL.L025) from Edward Cyril Lloyd Lewis, Pen-y-Bryn Farm, Gyffin, Conwy, second at the Welsh National Show 2026, to C Evans, Oak Farm, Criggion, Shrewsbury.
The female championship and reserve overall went to Pager Love Island ET (PAR.L3628) from Tippetts and Jones. The February-2025 ET twin is by Ryder Jordan and out of the 10,000gns Mortons Glory ET (MAM.G042), dam of last year’s 6,500gns top-priced male. She sold for 2,000gns to Towyn Development Co Ltd, Red House, Aberhafesp, Newtown.
Matching her at 2,000gns was the second prize yearling ewe, Smart Ass Lollipop ET (DEO.L021) from Mr D E Owen, Golygfa’r Dyffryn, Rowen, Conwy. The February-2025 ET twin is by Blackadder Jailhouse Rock ET (NMH.J009) and out of Smart Ass ET (DEO.H050), a Langlands Epic daughter. She went to J T Rowlands, Llanddeusant, Anglesey.
Tippetts and Jones also sold Pager Layla ET (PAR.L3625), a full sister to the female champion, at 1,700gns to A P & A J James, Cleeve Farm, Station Road, Ditton Priors, near Bridgnorth, and Pager Liz ET (PAR.L3659) at 1,350gns to J T Rowlands.
Third prize yearling ewe Smart Ass Lucky Lady ET (DEO.L013), a full ET sister to the 7,500gns Smart Ass Lionheart ET, made 1,300gns from Mr D E Owen to D Jones, Graig Fach, Llanfair Caereinion, Welshpool.
Twenty-three yearling ewes averaged £816.26.
Leading a small but keen ram lamb section at 1,300gns was the second prize lamb, Cwrt Celyn Mickey Mouse ET (CCC.M011) from Charlotte Burles Corbett and Richard Corbett, The Hollies, Penrhos, near Llanymynech, Powys. The January-2026 ET twin is by Lipley Hugo Boss ET (LIP.H010) and out of Woodies Kinda Pretty ET (WOO.K4023), and sold to D Thornley, Wartoft Grange Farm, Diseworth, Leicestershire.
The class winner, Danygraig Magnum (DCJ.M001) from Dylan and Charlie Jones, Danycraig, Treffonnen Lane, Llandrindod Wells, made 800gns to D A & S A Littlehales, Cefncalanog, Newcastle on Clun. By Lurg Larry ET (LUR.L003) and out of Gyffin Kate (ECL.K007), he was first prize ram lamb and reserve male champion at the Royal Bath & West Show 2026.
Cwrt Celyn Mozambique ET (CCC.M007) made 550gns to D P & L Roberts, Penbryn Llwyn, Llanrhaeadr, Denbighshire, while the third prize lamb, Pantyrefail (TSG.M005) from Travis Powell, Felingwm, Carmarthen, sold at 300gns to Dan Jones, Brynsadler, Pontyclun.
The sole aged ram, Glantre Kojak (MHO.K016) from L A Williams, Cilcennin, realised 350gns to T B & S Cartmail, Knightley House Farm, Grange Road, Woodseaves, Stafford.
