A small offering peaked at 500gns on two occasions at the Welsh Beltex Club’s sale at Welshpool Livestock Market on Thursday, 15 December.

Achieving that price first was the 1st prize shearling ewe and Champion from Edward Cyril Lloyd Lewis and Alex Martin in the shape of Gyffin Great Expectations ET, which sold AI’d to Kingledores Adonis. Sired by the 7000gns Clary Dumfries bought in a Welsh consortium, her dam is Smart Ass Anest, a daughter of the imported ram called The Godfather. Forking out the cash was DR Owen and Sons, Tywyn, Gwynedd.

Matching that 500gns when sold to David Heath, Chester, was Dafydd Owen’s Smart Ass embryo ewe lamb, which is by Wannop’s Finger Licken’ and out of the Kingledores Braveheart-sired Hackney Easy on the Eye, making her a full sister to the Reserve Champion at the Welsh National Show earlier in the year.

David Heath paid a further 480gns for another Smart Ass embryo ewe lamb which was this time by Buckles Filthy Rich and out of Smart Ass Duchess, an Ardstewart Aristocrat daughter.

Aged ewes reached 450gns when WH Jones paid that to take Deio Rowlands’ Deio’s Fern home to Lon Ceidio, Llanerch-Y-Medd. This Deio’s Emilio daughter is bred from the Myna Bomber-sired Deio’s Darling and changed hands served to Cothi Golden Boy.

Averages: Four aged ewes, £354; three shearling ewes, £403; four ewe lambs, £431.
