It was a day to remember for Alan Miller, and daughter Ellie, when they secured six red tickets as well as the Supreme Champion and Reserve honours at the Scottish National held at Perth Show on Saturday, 6 August.
What made the result all the better was the fact that the mother and duo were a mother and son pair for the Lurg Flock from near Inverurie.
Taking the top ticket was the 2018-born ewe, Sinclair’s Daisy ET, which was bought from her breeder, Graham Sinclair, at the Carlisle Premier in 2019 for 3000gns. Sired by Kingledores Battleaxe and out of the Broughton Willie Wonder-sired Broughton Bryony, she picked up the same award at Banchory and Turriff shows earlier in the season and went on to stand Reserve in the Inter-breed.
She was commended by the judge, James Little, of the Skiddaw View Flock, for her extreme style, shape and muscle, with James adding she stood out from the moment she entered the ring.
Echoing the Turriff result, Daisy’s shearling son, Lurg Goliath ET, stood Reserve. His sire is the 16,000gns Woodies Explosive bought at the Premier a couple years back.
The Millers also won the ewe lamb class with Lurg Honour ET. She is the result of an embryo bought at the Hackney and Wilodge production sale, being by Buckles Dark Dawn and out of the Topflite Al Pacino-sired Hackney Coco.
It was a clean sweep for the Millers in the group classes as they also won the pairs with a duo that also picked up the Reserve Inter-breed Pair ticket, as well as group of three and class for pair by the same sire.
Taking the Reserve Female ticket was Andrew Morton’s shearling ewe, Mortons Glory ET, which previously stood second at the Royal Highland. She is by the 10,000gns Gyffin Dexter and out of Mortons Devil Woman, a Kingledores Battleaxe daughter.
Heading up the aged ram class and standing Reserve Male was BorderEsk Finders Keepers, a 30,000gns ram from Richard Wood and Stuart Wood. This son of Ardstewart Cheeky Charlie is out of the Gavin Van’t Zaubekedal-sired BorderEsk Caribbean Queen.
James Hodge’s Riggroad Houdini ET led the ram lamb class. Bred out of the Kingledores Bruticus-sired Riggroad Cinamon, he is by Kingledores Wigglesworth.
A hotly contested Beltex young handlers section saw Zara Wood take the top ticket with Cameron Barclay in Reserve, but Cameron did one better in the open section when he secured the Champion honours.
