A young ram has won a young breeder the Supreme Champion ticket at the Virtual Scottish National Show when Ramsay McKnight’s ram lamb, McKnight’s Garfield ET, claimed the Male Championship before rising to the top.

“The overall entry showed a good depth of quality, especially the shearling ram class, which bodes well for the upcoming Premier Sale at Carlisle,” said the judge, Bruce Mair, of the Aviemore Flock.

“The Overall Champion ram lamb should command a lot of interest if forward at Carlisle. He had a lot of style and good all-round carcase conformation, added Bruce of the Clary Fandango son bred from Callacrag Dimond, herself by Hackney Braveheart.

Taking the Reserve Supreme honours was the Female Champion, Jordan Green’s shearling ewe named Drumburn Flora. Her pedigree includes Heatheryhall Dizzy Rascal on to the Bailey Brook CR7 daughter, Aviemore Dailey.

“The gimmer’s excellent blue colours combined with good mobility edged the result in her favour,” added Mr Mair.

In Reserve Male spot was Graham and Fiona Burke’s shearling ram, Pentland Frank ET, by Clary Desperado, while Grant Ireland’s aged ewe, the Quarrymount William Wallace-sired Glenisla Eday Princess ET, was Reserve Female.

Jenna Ballantyne headed up the other two classes as Lamington Del Boy, by Broxty Bruiser, won the aged ram section with the Mortons Cheeky Boy-sired Roadend Gabby winning the ewe lamb class.
